Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace

Sense-enjoyment and material gain do not extinguish craving; they fuel it. True relief from suffering comes from freedom from obsessive sense-oriented thinking and the cultivation of contentment and restraint.
In the Udyoga Parva’s counsel-oriented context, Sañjaya conveys a moral reflection to the royal audience: the pursuit of kāma and artha tends to intensify desire, illustrated by the image of a blazing fire that grows stronger when ghee is poured into it.
