Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace
मानध्नस्यासौ मानकामस्य चेर्षो: संरम्भिणक्षार्थधर्मातिगस्य । दुर्भाषिणो मन्युवशानुगस्य कामात्मनो दौहदैर्भावितस्य
sañjaya uvāca | mānadhnasya asau mānakāmasya ca īrṣoḥ saṃrambhiṇaḥ artha-dharma-ātigasya | durbhāṣiṇaḥ manyu-vaśānugasya kāmātmano dauhadaiḥ bhāvitasya ||
Dijo Sañjaya: «Ese hombre—que destruye el honor ajeno mientras codicia honor para sí; celoso, iracundo e impetuoso; que transgrede tanto el interés material como la rectitud; áspero de palabra; arrastrado por la cólera y esclavo de la pasión; y cuya mente está moldeada por antojos egoístas—tal es él». En este pasaje, Sañjaya perfila el derrumbe moral que permite a Dhṛtarāṣṭra, aun sabiendo lo correcto, abandonar el dharma por apego a lo que complace a Duryodhana.
