Adhyāya 195 — Arjuna’s Capability and Restraint Regarding Divyāstras

क्षत्रदेवब्रह्म॒देवी रथस्थौ पुरुषर्षभौ । जघनं पालयन्तौ च पृष्ठतो<नुप्रजग्मतु:,क्षत्रदेव और ब्रह्मदेव ये दोनों पुरुषरत्न रथपर बैठकर सेनाके पिछले भागकी रक्षा करते हुए पीछे-पीछे जा रहे थे
kṣatradeva-brahmadevī rathasthau puruṣarṣabhau | jaghanaṁ pālayantau ca pṛṣṭhato 'nuprajagmatuḥ ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Kṣatradeva y Brahmadevī—dos de los más eminentes entre los hombres—iban en un carro, siguiendo por detrás mientras guardaban la retaguardia del ejército. Su deber era proteger la línea posterior, la más vulnerable, encarnando vigilancia disciplinada y conducta responsable en la marcha hacia el conflicto.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as responsible guardianship: even in a war-bound march, excellence is shown by protecting the vulnerable rear and maintaining disciplined vigilance rather than seeking only glory at the front.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kṣatradeva and Brahmadevī are riding in a chariot at the back of the moving force, acting as a rear guard to secure the army’s trailing section.
