भीष्म उवाच ततस्तृतीये दिवसे संदिदेश व्यवस्थित: । कुरु प्रियं स मे राजन्‌ प्राप्तोडस्मीति महाव्रतः,भीष्मजी कहते हैं--तदनन्तर तीसरे दिन (हस्तिनापुरके बाहर) एक स्थानपर ठहरकर महान्‌ व्रतधारी परशुरामजीने मुझे संदेश दिया--“राजन्‌! मैं यहाँ आया हूँ। तुम मेरा प्रिय कार्य करो”

bhīṣma uvāca tatastṛtīye divase saṃdideśa vyavasthitaḥ | kuru priyaṃ sa me rājan prāpto ’smi iti mahāvrataḥ ||

Dijo Bhīṣma: “Luego, al tercer día, tras detenerse en un lugar determinado, Paraśurāma, observante de grandes votos, me envió un mensaje: ‘¡Oh rey! He llegado aquí. Haz lo que me es grato: concédeme mi petición.’” El instante enmarca una tensión dhármica: una autoridad ascética y venerable convoca a Bhīṣma, empujándolo hacia un acto que pone a prueba el deber, la obediencia y la ética de responder a la exigencia de un maestro formidable.
