Adharma—manifest as cruelty, wicked intent, and persistent enmity—invites inevitable consequences. The verse emphasizes that a solemn vow (pratijñā), once uttered in a charged moral context, becomes a vehicle through which ethical causality plays out: wrongdoing ripens into retribution, and truth is seen in the fulfillment of pledged action.
Sanjaya addresses Suyodhana (Duryodhana), warning him that Bhima’s vow concerning Duhshasana will soon be realized. It foreshadows the violent outcome awaiting Duhshasana and signals that the conflict is moving from threats and vows toward their concrete fulfillment in the coming war.
