Ulūka’s Provocation and Keśava’s Counter-Message (उलूकदूत्ये केशवप्रत्युत्तरम्)

Educational Q&A

The verse warns that entering a war driven by escalation leads to exhaustion and loss of discernment, and that the slaughter of one’s own kin culminates in intense inner torment—highlighting the ethical weight of violence and the inevitability of moral consequence.

Sanjaya describes the battlefield metaphorically as a swelling, inexhaustible torrent of weapons. He foretells that the one who plunges into it will become mentally overwhelmed by fatigue, and later—after the death of all relatives—will suffer deep remorse.
