ययातिपतन-कारणम् (The Cause of Yayāti’s Fall) — Nārada’s Counsel on Pride and Reconciliation
यत् फलं दानशीलस्य क्षमाशीलस्य यत् फलम् | यच्च मे फलमाधाने तेन संयुज्यतां भवान्,“दानशील पुरुषको जो पुण्यफल प्राप्त होता है, क्षमाशील मनुष्यको जो फल मिलता है तथा अग्निस्थापन आदि वेदोक्त कर्मोंके अनुष्ठानसे मुझे जिस फलकी प्राप्ति होनेवाली है, उन सभी प्रकारके पुण्यफलोंसे आप सम्पन्न हों!
yat phalaṁ dānaśīlasya kṣamāśīlasya yat phalam | yac ca me phalam ādhāne tena saṁyujyatāṁ bhavān ||
Dijo Nārada: «Que seas colmado con el mérito que obtiene quien se entrega a la dádiva, con el mérito que gana quien se entrega al perdón, y con el mérito que me está destinado por cumplir los ritos védicos, como el establecimiento del fuego sagrado. Que todas esas recompensas santas se unan en ti».
नारद उवाच
The verse praises three dharmic sources of merit—generosity, forgiveness, and faithful performance of Vedic duties—and expresses a blessing that these virtues and their spiritual fruits should accrue to the addressed person.
Narada is offering a benediction: he invokes the accumulated merit associated with charitable conduct, patient forgiveness, and ritual observance (notably the establishment of sacred fires), wishing that the recipient may be fully endowed with all such पुण्यफल (meritorious results).
