Haryaśva’s Agreement with Gālava and the Birth of Vasumanā
Nārada’s narration
sa bhavān pratigṛhṇātu mamaitāṁ mādhavīṁ sutām | ahaṁ dauhitravān syāṁ vai vara eṣa mama prabho ||
Dijo Nārada: «Así pues, señor venerable, acepta a mi hija Mādhavī.
The verse highlights a dharmic concern for lineage and familial continuity: the request for a boon (to have a grandson) frames personal desire within socially sanctioned duty, emphasizing responsibility toward family succession and the ethical weight of formal acceptance (pratigraha).
Nārada addresses a powerful lord and offers his daughter Mādhavī in marriage/acceptance, asking in return a specific boon—becoming dauhitravān, i.e., having a daughter's son—thereby linking the alliance to the hope of progeny and continuation of the family line.
