Indra–Māndhātṛ Dialogue

सर्वभूतेश्वरं देवं प्रभुं नारायणं पुरा । जग्मु: सुबहुश: शूरा राजानो दण्डनीतये,राजेन्द्र! उत्तम चरित्रों (धर्मों) सहित सम्पूर्ण लोक राजधर्ममें अन्तर्भूत हैं। यह बात मैं तुमसे कह चुका हूँ। किसी समय बहुत-से शूरवीर नरेश दण्डनीतिकी प्राप्तिके लिये सम्पूर्ण भूतोंके स्वामी महातेजस्वी सर्वव्यापी भगवान्‌ नारायण देवकी शरणमें गये थे

sarvabhūteśvaraṁ devaṁ prabhuṁ nārāyaṇaṁ purā | jagmuḥ subahuśaḥ śūrā rājāno daṇḍanītaye, rājendra |

Dijo Bhishma: «En tiempos antiguos, muchos reyes heroicos se acercaron una y otra vez a Narayana—el Señor divino, soberano de todos los seres—para pedir instrucción en la daṇḍanīti, la ciencia del gobierno y del castigo justo. Oh el mejor de los reyes, todos los mundos, junto con sus más altos códigos de conducta, están comprendidos en el dharma del rey; esto ya te lo he dicho».
