Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages

विश्वामित्रस्य पौत्रस्तु रैभ्यपुत्रो महातपा:,महाराज! विश्वामित्रके पौत्र तथा रैभ्यके पुत्र महातेजस्वी परावसुने भरी सभामें आक्षेप करते हुए कहा--“राम! राजा ययातिके स्वर्गसे गिरनेके समय जो प्रतर्दन आदि सज्जन पुरुष यज्ञमें एकत्र हुए थे, क्या वे क्षत्रिय नहीं थे? तुम्हारी प्रतिज्ञा झूठी है। तुम व्यर्थ ही जनताकी सभामें डींग हाँका करते हो कि मैंने क्षत्रियोंका अन्त कर दिया। मैं तो समझता हूँ कि तुमने क्षत्रिय वीरोंके भयसे ही पर्वतकी शरण ली है। इस समय पृथ्वीपर सब ओर पुनः सैकड़ों क्षत्रिय भर गये हैं!

viśvāmitrasya pautras tu raibhyaputro mahātapāḥ | mahārāja viśvāmitrake pautra tathā raibhyake putra mahātejasvī parāvasune bhari sabhāyām ākṣepaṃ kurvan uvāca— “rāma! rājā yayāteḥ svargād bhraṃśamāne yāḥ pratardana-ādayaḥ sajjanapuruṣā yajñe samāgatāḥ, kiṃ te kṣatriyā na āsan? tava pratijñā mṛṣā. tvaṃ vṛthāiva janatāyāḥ sabhāyāṃ ḍīṅgaṃ hāṅkaroṣi— ‘mayā kṣatriyāṇām antaḥ kṛtaḥ’ iti. ahaṃ tu manye kṣatriyavīrabhayād eva tvaṃ parvataśaraṇaṃ gataḥ. idānīṃ pṛthivyāṃ sarvataḥ punaḥ śatāni kṣatriyāḥ saṃjātāḥ!”

Dijo Vāsudeva: «¡Oh rey! Un gran asceta—Parāvasu, nieto de Viśvāmitra e hijo de Raibhya—censurando a Rāma en la asamblea, habló así: “¡Rāma! Cuando el rey Yayāti caía del cielo, ¿acaso Pratardana y los demás varones nobles reunidos entonces en el sacrificio no eran kṣatriyas? Tu voto es falso. En la asamblea del pueblo te jactas en vano diciendo: ‘He puesto fin a los kṣatriyas’. Yo creo que buscaste refugio en las montañas sólo por temor a los héroes kṣatriyas. ¡Aun ahora, por toda la tierra, han vuelto a surgir cientos de kṣatriyas!”»
