त्यक्ताहारेण भवता वने निवसता त्वया । बालवृद्धमिदं सर्व पीड्यते धर्मसंकटात्,“इस वनमें रहकर आपने भोजन छोड़ दिया है। इससे हमारे धर्ममें बाधा आती है। बालकसे लेकर वृद्धतक हम सब लोगोंको इस बातसे बड़ा कष्ट हो रहा है
tyaktāhāreṇa bhavatā vane nivasatā tvayā | bāla-vṛddham idaṃ sarvaṃ pīḍyate dharma-saṅkaṭāt ||
Bhishma dijo: «Al vivir en este bosque y renunciar al alimento, nos has puesto en una crisis de dharma. Desde los niños hasta los ancianos, todos estamos afligidos, pues esta situación estorba lo que es recto y debido».
भीष्म उवाच
Personal austerity (such as fasting) is not automatically virtuous if it creates a dharma-saṅkaṭa—an ethical impasse that harms or burdens others. Right conduct must be weighed against its social and moral consequences.
Bhishma addresses someone living in the forest who has renounced food. He argues that this act has become a source of collective distress, affecting everyone from children to elders, because it obstructs proper dharma and creates a moral dilemma for the community.
