Prāyaścitta-vidhāna: Tapas, Dāna, Vrata, and Proportional Expiation (प्रायश्चित्तविधानम्)
यथा प्रव्रजितो भिक्षुस्तथैव स्वे गृहे वसेत्
yathā pravrajito bhikṣus tathaiva sve gṛhe vaset
Dijo Vyāsa: «Así como el mendicante que ha renunciado vive—libre de posesividad y apego—del mismo modo debe uno morar incluso en su propia casa».
व्यास उवाच
The verse teaches inner renunciation: even while remaining in household life, one should cultivate the same non-attachment, simplicity, and freedom from possessiveness that characterize a true mendicant.
In the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, Vyāsa delivers an ethical instruction, emphasizing that spiritual discipline is not limited to outward renunciation; the householder too can live with a renunciant’s mindset.
