etad hi yuṣmacchastrāṇāṃ śāstram uttamasaṃjñitam | etad arthyaṃ ca dharmyaṃ ca rahasyaṃ caitad uttamam ||
Dijo Bhīṣma: «Este tratado, compuesto por vosotros, será tenido por el más eminente entre vuestras enseñanzas autorizadas. Es a la vez una obra que procura el bienestar práctico (artha), sostiene la rectitud (dharma) y transmite el secreto interior más alto: un excelente compendio del buen vivir y del gobierno sabio.»
भीष्म उवाच
