Mahāvasu’s Fall by Speech-Error and Release through Devotion (अज-विवादः वसोः शापः विमोचनं च)
भीकम (2 अमान चतुर्विशत्यधिकत्रिशततमो< ध्याय: शुकदेवजीकी उत्पत्ति और उनके यज्ञोपवीत, वेदाध्ययन एवं समावर्तन-संस्कारका वृत्तान्त भीष्म उवाच स लब्ध्वा परम॑ देवाद् वरं सत्यवतीसुतः । अरणी सहिते गृहा ममन्थाग्निचिकीर्षया,भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन्! महादेवजीसे उत्तम वर पाकर एक दिन सत्यवतीनन्दन व्यासजी अग्नि प्रकट करनेकी इच्छासे दो अरणी काष्ठ लेकर उनका मन्थन करने लगे
bhīṣma uvāca | sa labdhvā paramaṁ devād varaṁ satyavatī-sutaḥ | araṇī-sahite gṛhā mamāntha agni-cikīrṣayā ||
Dijo Bhishma: “Oh rey, tras obtener del gran dios Mahadeva un don excelso, Vyasa, hijo de Satyavati, deseando hacer surgir el fuego, tomó los dos palos de fricción (arani) y comenzó a hacerlos girar para encender la llama sagrada.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse foregrounds the sanctity of Vedic discipline: sacred knowledge and spiritual aims are pursued through proper means—here symbolized by kindling the ritual fire with arani—after receiving divine grace. It links divine favor (boon from Mahadeva) with responsible ritual action.
Bhishma begins recounting an episode about Vyasa. After receiving an excellent boon from Mahadeva, Vyasa takes the pair of arani sticks and churns them to produce fire, setting the stage for the ensuing account (in this chapter’s framing) connected with Shukadeva’s origin and related rites.
