यदि सन्तं सेवति यद्यसन्तं तपस्विनं यदि वा स्तेनमेव । वासो यथा रंगवशं प्रयाति तथा स तेषां वशमभ्युपैति
yadi santaṁ sevati yady asantaṁ tapasvinaṁ yadi vā stenam eva | vāso yathā raṅgavaśaṁ prayāti tathā sa teṣāṁ vaśam abhyupaiti ||
Si alguien se junta con el virtuoso o con el malvado; con un asceta o incluso con un ladrón, cae bajo su influjo. Como la tela toma el color con que se la tiñe, así el hombre se vuelve como la compañía que guarda, asumiendo sus cualidades y sus modos.
