पराशर उवाच
Greed (lobha) should be abandoned in all conditions—whether one is experiencing pleasure or pain—by reflecting with mind and discernment on the guidance of the śāstras.
Parāśara is instructing a king (addressed as nṛpasattama/nṛpaśreṣṭha) on righteous conduct, emphasizing that stable ethical discipline requires renouncing greed regardless of changing fortunes.
