Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how extraordinary spiritual or royal potency manifests as a ‘cosmic sign’: the earth itself trembles. Ethically, it implies that true authority—whether of dharma, ascetic power, or divine presence—demands humility and careful conduct from rulers and observers.

Bhishma describes a scene in which a formidable ‘puruṣa’ moves about at that place (understood in context as a sacrificial/ritual setting), and the force of his movement causes the earth to shake intensely, emphasizing the being’s exceptional power.
