Bhishma affirms a dharmic life-sequence: fulfill household responsibilities (including procreation) at the proper time, attain heavenly results through merit, and ultimately move toward renunciation and spiritual perfection—therefore the listeners should be free of fear because their conduct is pure.
In Shanti Parva, Bhishma is instructing and consoling his audience with a promise of auspicious outcomes: they will live rightly, reach the gods’ realms, and later attain the status of Siddhas; he explicitly removes their anxiety by declaring them stainless and sinless.
