उपद्रवांस्तथा रोगान् हितजीर्णमिताशनात् । लोभ मोहं च संतोषाद् विषयांस्तत्त्वदर्शनात्
bhīṣma uvāca | upadravāṁs tathā rogān hitajīrṇamitāśanāt | lobha-mohaṁ ca santoṣād viṣayāṁs tattva-darśanāt |
Bhishma dijo: Deben apartarse las perturbaciones del cuerpo y las enfermedades tomando alimento saludable, de fácil digestión y en medida justa. Deben vencerse la codicia y el engaño mediante el contentamiento, y refrenarse el apego a los objetos de los sentidos mediante la visión de su verdadera naturaleza. Así se establece el dominio de sí por una vida disciplinada, satisfacción interior y discernimiento claro.
भीष्म उवाच
Ethical self-governance begins with practical discipline: moderate, wholesome, digestible food prevents bodily afflictions; contentment counters greed and delusion; and insight into reality weakens fixation on sense-pleasures.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and right living, Bhishma advises the listener on methods to remove physical and mental obstacles—linking health, contentment, and philosophical discernment as supports for a steady life of virtue.
