All relationships and worldly associations are inherently impermanent; since separation is certain, one should cultivate steadiness, restraint, and non-attachment, meeting gain and loss, union and parting with dharmic composure.
Vyāsa delivers a consoling, philosophical maxim within the Śānti Parva’s instruction: he frames human grief and attachment against the universal law that every meeting of embodied beings must end in parting.
