Spiritual attainment is endangered by māna (pride). The moment one concludes “I am perfected,” ego can arise and undo the ethical and inner discipline that produced the achievement.
After certain birds disappear from view, the ascetic Jājali becomes amazed and interprets the event as proof of his own siddhi (perfection). This self-assessment immediately gives rise to pride, setting up a moral lesson about the subtle return of ego.
