The verse teaches inner liberation: by cutting the ‘knot of the heart’—the deep-seated bondage of ignorance and attachment reinforced by mental and intellectual rumination—one becomes free from grief and doubt and abides steadily in Self-grounded peace.
Vyāsa continues an instruction in the Śānti Parva’s mokṣa-oriented discourse, summarizing the practical outcome of the prior teaching: the seeker should sever the inner bondage and thereby attain a stable, sorrowless, doubtless state of abiding in the highest reality.
