Āśrama-dharma and Brahmacarya: Śuka’s Inquiry on Karma and Tyāga (शुक-प्रश्नः कर्मत्यागविवेकश्च)
यावदस्य भवत्यस्मिन् कीर्तिलोके यशस्करी । तावत् पुण्यकृतां लोकाननन्तान् पुरुषो$श्षुते
yāvad asya bhavaty asmin kīrtiloke yaśaskarī | tāvat puṇyakṛtāṁ lokān anantān puruṣo 'śnute ||
Vyāsa dijo: Mientras la fama de una persona—que otorga honor—perdure en este mundo de renombre, por ese mismo tiempo alcanza los reinos sin fin reservados a los meritorios, mora allí y goza de dicha divina. El verso subraya que la buena reputación duradera, nacida de actos justos, se vuelve causa continua del bienestar celestial.
व्यास उवाच
Enduring fame that arises from righteous, meritorious conduct functions as a continuing support for one’s posthumous well-being: as long as such kīrti remains alive in the human world, one is said to enjoy the imperishable realms of the virtuous.
In the didactic discourse of Śānti Parva, Vyāsa states a general principle about the fruit of virtue: the persistence of one’s good name in the world corresponds to continued enjoyment of the blessed worlds attained by puṇya.
