Yoga-kṛtya (योककृत्य) — Vyāsa on Sense-Restraint, Obstacles, and Brahman-Realization

आलम्भयज्ञा: क्षत्राश्न॒ हविर्यज्ञा विश: स्मृता: । परिचारयज्ञा: शूद्रास्तु तपोयज्ञा द्विजातय:,ब्राह्मणोंके लिये तप ही यज्ञ है, क्षत्रियोंके लिये हिंसाप्रधान युद्ध आदि ही यज्ञ हैं, वैश्योंक लिये घृत आदि हविष्यकी आहुति देना ही यज्ञ है और शूद्रोंके लिये तीनों वर्णोकी सेवा ही यज्ञ है

ālam̐bhayajñāḥ kṣatrāś ca haviryajñā viśaḥ smṛtāḥ | paricārayajñāḥ śūdrās tu tapoyajñā dvijātayaḥ ||

Dijo Vyāsa: Para los kṣatriyas, el sacrificio se entiende como el tipo ‘ālam̐bha’: actos de fuerza, como la batalla y el ejercicio del poder real. Para los vaiśyas, el sacrificio es la ofrenda de havis—ghee y otras oblaciones—en el fuego sagrado. Para los śūdras, el sacrificio es el servicio y la asistencia a los otros tres órdenes. Para los “dos veces nacidos” (dvija), el sacrificio es la austeridad: disciplina de sí y esfuerzo espiritual. Así, a cada grupo se le enseña una forma de yajña acorde con su condición, orientando el deber hacia el orden social y el dominio interior.
