न हि त्वां नोत्सहे हन्तुं सवज़मपि मुष्टिना । न तु विक्रमकालो<यं क्षमाकालोडयमागत:,तुम्हारे हाथमें वज् रहनेपर भी मैं केवल मुक्केसे मारकर तुम्हें यमलोक न पहुँचा सककूँ, ऐसी बात नहीं है। किंतु मेरे लिये यह पराक्रम दिखानेका नहीं, क्षमा करनेका समय आया है

Transliteration

na hi tvāṁ notsahe hantuṁ sarvajam api muṣṭinā | na tu vikrama-kālo ’yaṁ kṣamā-kālo ’yam āgataḥ ||

Translation

Bhishma dijo: «No es que me falte poder para abatirte—hasta con el puño desnudo, aunque sostengas el rayo (vajra). Pero esta no es la hora de exhibir proeza; para mí, el tiempo que ha llegado es el tiempo de la paciencia y el perdón».
