एक: शास्ता न द्वितीयो<5स्ति शास्ता गर्भ शयानं पुरुषं शास्ति शास्ता । तेनानुयुक्त: प्रवणादिवोदकं यथा नियुक्तोडस्मि तथा वहामि
bhīṣma uvāca | ekaḥ śāstā na dvitīyo 'sti śāstā garbhaśayānaṁ puruṣaṁ śāsti śāstā | tenānuyuktaḥ pravaṇādivodakaṁ yathā niyukto 'smi tathā vahāmi ||
Bhīṣma dijo: «Hay un solo Gobernante; no existe un segundo. Ese mismo Regidor guía incluso al hombre que yace en el vientre. Movido por Su designio, el ser avanza hacia la dirección que Él quiere, como el agua que, por su naturaleza, corre hacia lo bajo. Así también yo cargo con la tarea que me ha sido asignada, conforme al impulso y al mandato de ese Señor.»
