This line functions as a colophon marking the close of a chapter devoted to ācāra (right conduct). Its ethical emphasis is that dharma is to be learned and transmitted through structured instruction—here, Bhīṣma’s authoritative teaching to Yudhiṣṭhira within the Mokṣa-dharma framework.
The text is concluding a chapter in the Śānti Parvan. Bhīṣma, speaking to Yudhiṣṭhira, has been expounding the discipline of proper conduct; this closing formula identifies the work, the parvan/section, the interlocutors, the topic (ācāravidhi), and the chapter number.
