“वृक्षेके नीचे भी जिसकी पत्नी साथ हो, उसके लिये वही घर है और बहुत बड़ी अट्टालिका भी यदि स्त्रीसे रहित है तो वह निश्चय ही दुर्गग गहन वनके समान है ।।
dharma-artha-kāma-kāleṣu bhāryā puṁsaḥ sahāyinī | videśa-gamane cāsya saiva viśvāsa-kārikā ||
Bhishma dijo: «Aunque sea en un lugar bajo, al pie de un árbol, si la esposa está a su lado, eso es su hogar. Pero aun una gran mansión, si carece de mujer, es sin duda como un bosque hondo y peligroso. En los asuntos del dharma, en la búsqueda de la riqueza y en el cumplimiento del deseo legítimo, la esposa es la principal ayuda del hombre. Incluso cuando debe partir a tierras extrañas, sólo ella es el suelo firme de la confianza: su amiga fiel.»
