Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca
The verse emphasizes correct interpretation and charitable understanding in ethical discourse: even when two thinkers agree on the essence (artha-tattva), one should not misconstrue the other’s intent; clarity and non-misunderstanding are themselves part of dharmic conduct.
Lomaśa responds to a prior speaker’s ethical summary, affirming strong agreement with the stated policy/dharma-essence, while carefully adding that his own words should not be taken in a contrary sense—he is preventing a misunderstanding within an ongoing didactic conversation in the Śānti Parva.
