Sage Assembly and Yudhiṣṭhira’s Articulation of Grief
The verse underscores that discussions on dharma should be guided by realized authorities—great ṛṣis and their disciplined lineages—so that ethical conclusions rest on wisdom, tradition, and spiritual insight rather than mere opinion.
Vaiśampāyana lists eminent sages—Vyāsa, Nārada, Devala, Devāsthāna, Kaṇva—and their foremost disciples arriving at the gathering, setting the stage for a weighty, dharma-centered deliberation in the Śānti Parva.
