Asita Devala Observes Jaigīṣavya’s Yogic Attainment and Chooses Mokṣa-dharma (देवल-जैगीषव्योपाख्यानम्)
पुण्ये तीर्थवरे तत्र देवब्रद्यर्षिसेविते मुनींश्चैवाभिवाद्याथ यमुनातीर्थमागमत्,पृथ्वीनाथ! देवताओं और ब्रह्मर्षियोंसे सेवित उस उत्तम पुण्यमय तीर्थमें मुनियोंको प्रणाम करके बलरामजी यमुनातीर्थमें आये, जहाँ अदितिके महाभाग पुत्र गौरकान्ति वरुणजीने राजसूय यज्ञका अनुष्ठान किया था
vaiśampāyana uvāca | puṇye tīrthavare tatra devabrahmarṣisevite munīṁś caivābhivādyātha yamunātīrtham āgamat | pṛthvīnātha |
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: En aquel vado supremo, santo y meritorio, frecuentado por los dioses y los grandes ṛṣis, Balarāma primero rindió homenaje a los sabios y luego se encaminó al vado del Yamunā.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic humility: honoring sages and sanctified places is a mark of righteous conduct, even for powerful figures. Reverence (abhivāda) and association with holy tīrthas are presented as ethically elevating.
The narrator states that Balarāma, after visiting an especially holy tīrtha attended by gods and great seers, salutes the sages there and then travels onward to the Yamunā ford.
