अनावृष्टिरनुप्राप्ता तदा द्वादशवार्षिकी | “जीविकाकी इच्छासे जब वे हिमालयके वनमें निवास करते थे, उन्हीं दिनों बारह वर्षोतक इस देशमें वर्षा ही नहीं हुई
anāvṛṣṭir anuprāptā tadā dvādaśavārṣikī |
Vaiśampāyana dijo: Entonces sobrevino una sequía, que duró doce años. En los días en que ellos habitaban en el bosque del Himālaya buscando sustento, en esta tierra no cayó lluvia alguna durante doce años. Privada de agua por tanto tiempo, la región fue empujada a la escasez, recordando a todos que el sustento y el orden social dependen del equilibrio de la naturaleza y de la conducta responsable de gobernantes y comunidades en tiempos de calamidad.
