Commencement of the Śalya–Yudhiṣṭhira Duel
सात्यकि: प्रेक्ष्य समरे मद्रराजमवस्थितम् | विव्याध दशभिर्बाणैस्तिष्ठ तिछेति चाब्रवीत्,सात्यकिने समरांगणमें खड़े हुए मद्रराजको देखकर उन्हें दस बाणोंसे बीध डाला और कहा--'खड़े रहो, खड़े रहो”
sātyakiḥ prekṣya samare madrarājam avasthitam | vivyādha daśabhir bāṇais tiṣṭha tiṣṭheti cābravīt |
Sañjaya dijo: Al ver al rey de Madra firme en el combate, Sātyaki lo atravesó con diez flechas y exclamó: «¡Mantente en pie—mantente!» El instante subraya el código del guerrero: enfrentar abiertamente a un rival digno y desafiarlo a permanecer inquebrantable aun bajo el asalto.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in wartime: direct confrontation, courage under pressure, and the expectation that a warrior remain steadfast when challenged, even amid injury.
Sañjaya reports that Sātyaki, noticing Śalya (the king of Madra) standing in the battle, shoots him with ten arrows and verbally challenges him to keep standing his ground.
