सम॑ पर्यपतंश्वान्ये कुर्वन्तो महदाकुलम्‌ । कितने ही मलत्याग करने लगे। कितनोंके पेशाब झड़ने लगे। राजेन्द्र! दूसरे बहुत-से घोड़े और हाथी बन्धन तोड़कर एक साथ ही सब ओर दौड़ने और लोगोंको अत्यन्त व्याकुल करने लगे

samaṃ paryapatañ śvāny anye kurvanto mahad ākulam |

Dijo Sañjaya: Otros, en su pánico, corrían en todas direcciones, sembrando una gran confusión. Muchos animales perdieron el control de sí mismos: unos evacuaban, otros orinaban. ¡Oh rey!, muchos caballos y elefantes rompieron a la vez sus ataduras y se precipitaron por doquier, sumiendo a la gente en extrema angustia. La escena muestra cómo el terror y la violencia impulsada por el adharma en la guerra se propagan más allá de los combatientes, sacudiendo incluso a los inocentes y el orden natural.
