Aśvatthāmā’s Buddhi-Doctrine and Nocturnal Incursion Resolve (अश्वत्थाम्नः बुद्धिविचारः सौप्तिकसंकल्पश्च)
यथा हि वैद्य: कुशलो ज्ञात्वा व्याधिं यथाविधि । भैषज्यं कुरुते योगात् प्रशमार्थमिति प्रभो,'प्रभो! जैसे कुशल वैद्य विधिपूर्वक रोगकी जानकारी प्राप्त करके उसकी शान्तिके लिये योग्यतानुसार औषध प्रदान करता है, इसी प्रकार मनुष्य कार्यकी सिद्धिके लिये अपनी विवेकशक्तिसे विचार करके किसी निश्चयात्मक बुद्धिका आश्रय लेते हैं; परंतु दूसरे लोग उसकी निन्दा करने लगते हैं
yathā hi vaidyaḥ kuśalo jñātvā vyādhiṁ yathāvidhi | bhaiṣajyaṁ kurute yogāt praśamārtham iti prabho ||
¡Oh señor! Así como un médico diestro, tras conocer la dolencia conforme al debido método, administra el remedio adecuado con aplicación juiciosa para apaciguarla, del mismo modo el hombre que busca consumar una empresa reflexiona con discernimiento y se acoge a una resolución firme; pero otros comienzan a censurar esa decisión.
