Grave wrongdoing in war—especially acts that violate accepted codes—invites karmic retribution: social exclusion, bodily suffering, and a life of restless wandering, showing that adharma destroys both reputation and well-being.
In the aftermath of the night-raid episode of the Sauptika Parva, a pronouncement is reported by Vaiśampāyana describing the offender’s fate: he will be unable to live among people and will roam in misery, afflicted by diseases and foul bodily decay.
