Dyūta-kathā-praśnaḥ — Inquiry into the Dice-Game Calamity
सो<भ्ययादासनात् तूर्ण भ्रातृभि: परिवारित: । पाद्येनासनदानेन पितामहमपूजयत्
so 'bhyayād āsanāt tūṛṇaṁ bhrātṛbhiḥ parivāritaḥ | pādyenāsanadānena pitāmaham apūjayat ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Al verlo, el rey Yudhiṣṭhira—rodeado por sus hermanos—se levantó con presteza de su asiento y, ofreciendo el agua ritual para lavar los pies y presentando un sitial, honró debidamente al venerable anciano Vyāsa.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic conduct: one should promptly rise and offer respectful hospitality—such as a seat and pādya—to elders and spiritual authorities, expressing humility and proper regard.
As Vyāsa arrives, Yudhiṣṭhira, accompanied by his brothers, immediately stands up from his seat and performs the formal acts of welcome—offering foot-water and a seat—thereby honoring Vyāsa appropriately.
