Arjuna’s Northern Conquests and Tribute Collection

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how unchecked rage and the momentum of enmity can drive actions to extreme violence; it invites reflection on the ethical cost of vengeance and the fragility of restraint (dama) even among the powerful.

In the course of a violent confrontation, Bhīma physically overpowers his opponent by gripping one leg, bracing the other with his foot, and splitting him into two—an emphatic depiction of Bhīma’s famed strength and ferocity.
