Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of accepting combat under declared terms—whether as massed battle or single combat—while also warning, through Jarāsandha’s tone, how valor can slide into overconfidence and domination.

Jarāsandha issues a direct challenge, offering multiple modes of fighting: army versus army in formation, a single champion against him, or even two or three opponents against him either sequentially or simultaneously—asserting his strength and control over the contest.
