Arjuna’s evacuation of Dvārakā, Vasudeva’s rites, and the caravan’s crisis
स तमासाद्य धर्मज्ञमुपतस्थे महाव्रतम् । अर्जुनोअस्मीति नामास्मै निवेद्याभ्यवदत् तत:,महान् व्रतधारी तथा धर्मके ज्ञाता व्यासजीके पास पहुँचकर “मैं अर्जुन हूँ” ऐसा कहते हुए धनंजयने उनके चरणोंमें प्रणाम किया। फिर वे उनके पास ही खड़े हो गये
sa tam āsādya dharmajñam upatasthe mahāvratam | arjuno 'smīti nāmāsmai nivedyābhyavadat tataḥ ||
Al llegar ante aquel sabio de gran voto, conocedor del dharma, Arjuna se acercó con reverencia. Dándose a conocer—«Soy Arjuna»—Dhanañjaya pronunció su nombre, se inclinó a los pies del asceta y luego permaneció de pie cerca, respetuoso.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse models dharmic etiquette: when facing grave uncertainty, one should approach a true knower of dharma with humility, clearly identify oneself, offer respectful obeisance, and wait attentively for instruction—placing righteousness above pride or haste.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Arjuna goes to the great sage Vyāsa, known for his vows and knowledge of dharma. Arjuna introduces himself—“I am Arjuna”—bows at Vyāsa’s feet, and remains standing nearby in respectful attendance.
