Vasudeva–Arjuna Dialogue in the Aftermath of Dvārakā

Educational Q&A

The passage underscores impermanence and the dharmic duty of honoring the dead: even the greatest lineages face decline, yet communal responsibility, respect, and compassion are upheld through proper funeral observances and collective mourning.

After Vasudeva’s death, Arjuna arranges an ornate bier, places the body upon it, and has it carried out of Dvārakā. The citizens of Dvārakā and the people of the Ānarta region—supporters of the Yādavas—follow in a grief-filled funeral procession.
