अध्याय १: उत्पात-दर्शनम् तथा वृष्णि-विनाश-श्रवणम्
Omens Observed and the Hearing of the Vṛṣṇi Destruction
जीवन् स शूलमारोहेत् स्वयं कृत्वा सबान्धव: । 'जो मनुष्य कहीं भी हमलोगोंसे छिपकर कोई नशीली पीनेकी वस्तु तैयार करेगा वह स्वयं वह अपराध करके जीतेजी अपने भाई-बन्धुओंसहित शूलीपर चढ़ा दिया जायगा'
jīvan sa śūlam ārohet svayaṃ kṛtvā sabāndhavaḥ |
Vaiśaṃpāyana dijo: «Quienquiera que, ocultándose de nosotros en cualquier lugar, prepare una bebida embriagante—habiendo cometido esa falta por su propio acto—será empalado en vida, junto con sus parientes.»
