जब कर्णका वध हो गया, तब आपके किसी भी योद्धाका मन कदापि जल्दी पराक्रम दिखानेमें नहीं लगा और न सेनाको संगठित रखनेकी ओर ही किसीका ध्यान गया ।।
sañjaya uvāca |
vaṇijo nāvi bhinnāyām agādhe viplave yathā |
apāre pāram icchanto hate dvīpe kirīṭinā ||
karṇe hate tadā rājan na kaścid yuyudhe tava |
na ca senāṃ samādhātuṃ matir āsīt kathaṃcana ||
Dijo Sañjaya: Oh rey, cuando Karṇa fue muerto, ninguno de tus guerreros halló ánimo para mostrar un valor rápido, ni nadie volvió su mente a mantener el ejército en orden. Y así como los mercaderes, deseosos de cruzar, caen en una confusión impotente cuando su nave se hace pedazos en una tormenta sobre un mar profundo e ilimitado, así también los Kauravas quedaron desorientados cuando Arjuna, el de la diadema, dio muerte a Karṇa, que se alzaba como una isla de amparo en medio del oleaje de la guerra.
