(घृणां त्यक्त्वा प्रमादं च भूगोरस्त्रं च संस्मर | दृष्टिं मुष्टिं च संधानं स्मृत्वा रामोपदेशजम्‌ । धनंजयं जयप्रेप्सु: प्रत्युदूग॒च्छ महारथम्‌ ।।) “कर्ण! तुम दया और प्रमाद छोड़कर भृगुवंशी परशुरामजीके दिये हुए अस्त्रका स्मरण करो, उनके उपदेशके अनुसार लक्ष्यकी ओर दृष्टि रखना, धनुषको अपनी मुटद्ठीसे दृढ़तापूर्वक पकड़े रहना और बाणोंका संधान करना आदि बातें याद करके मनमें विजय पानेकी इच्छा लिये महारथी अर्जुनका सामना करनेके लिये आगे बढ़ो। एषा विदीर्यते सेना धार्तराष्ट्री समन्ततः । अर्जुनस्य भयात्‌ तूर्ण निध्नतः शात्रवान्‌ बहूनू,“अर्जुन थोड़ी ही देरमें बहुत-से शत्रुओंका संहार कर डालते हैं, इसलिये उनके भयसे दुर्योधनकी यह सेना चारों ओरसे छिन्न-भिन्न होकर भागी जा रही है

arjuna uvāca | ghṛṇāṃ tyaktvā pramādaṃ ca bhṛgor astraṃ ca saṃsmara | dṛṣṭiṃ muṣṭiṃ ca sandhānaṃ smṛtvā rāmopadeśajam || dhanañjayaṃ jayaprepsuḥ pratyudgaccha mahāratham || eṣā vidīryate senā dhārtarāṣṭrī samantataḥ | arjunasya bhayāt tūṛṇaṃ nighnataḥ śātravān bahūn ||

Dijo Arjuna: «Desecha la piedad mal puesta y la negligencia; recuerda el arma que te enseñó el descendiente de Bhṛgu (Paraśurāma). Ten presente, como Rāma te instruyó, fijar la mirada en el blanco, aferrar con firmeza la empuñadura del arco y encajar la flecha con puntería constante. Anhelando la victoria, avanza a enfrentar a Dhanañjaya, el gran guerrero de carro. Pues el ejército de los Dhārtarāṣṭra está siendo desgarrado por todas partes—por temor a Arjuna, que derriba con presteza a muchos enemigos.»
