एवमुक्त: प्रत्युवाच विजयो भरतर्षभ । सत्येन ते शपे राजन् प्रसादेन तथैव च । भीमेन च नरश्रेष्ठ यमा भ्यां च महीपते
evam uktaḥ pratyuvāca vijayo bharatarṣabha | satyena te śape rājan prasādena tathaiva ca | bhīmena ca naraśreṣṭha yamābhyāṃ ca mahīpate ||
Sañjaya dijo: Así interpelado, Vijaya (Arjuna) respondió: «¡Oh rey, toro entre los Bharatas! Te lo juro por la Verdad misma, y asimismo por tu benévola gracia; lo juro también por Bhīma y por los gemelos, hijos de Yama (Nakula y Sahadeva), oh señor de la tierra. Tocando mi arco como testigo de mi voto, declaro en verdad: hoy, en la batalla, o daré muerte a Karṇa, o yo mismo, muerto, caeré sobre la tierra».
