The Karṇa–Arjuna Confrontation
Cosmic Spectatorship and Vows

In the chaos of war, many abandon self-reliance and seek protection in a single acknowledged leader; the verse highlights how crisis exposes dependence, tests courage, and makes the moral weight of leadership visible.
Sañjaya reports that, as the Pāṇḍavas press the attack, large numbers of warriors are being routed and, in panic, cry out to “Puruṣottama,” appealing to him as their sole support amid defeat.
