(The Fall of Vṛṣasena) — Karṇa Parva, Adhyāya 62

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kṣatriya battlefield code where prowess is displayed not only by killing but by decisive, confidence-breaking feats. It underscores how pride, intimidation, and psychological pressure operate alongside physical skill in war—raising ethical tension between valor and cruelty.

During the Karṇa–Arjuna combat, Karṇa shoots another bhalla-arrow and knocks down Arjuna’s helmet. Sañjaya notes that Karṇa appears to be laughing, signaling superiority and attempting to unsettle Arjuna.
