Arjuna’s targeted advance; Śalya–Karṇa dialogue; interception attempts
The verse underscores the grim moral atmosphere of war: even renowned heroes are driven into flight and pursuit, while allied clans suffer heavy losses. It highlights the kṣatriya world of duty and consequence—valor, tactical chase, and the tragic cost paid by entire groups like the Sṛñjayas.
Sañjaya reports that Dhṛṣṭadyumna, a foremost warrior, is chasing a fleeing opponent on the battlefield, and he draws attention to the scene where many Sṛñjaya fighters have already been killed.
