The verse highlights steadfastness and collective duty in crisis: when a leader is threatened or obscured by overwhelming force, allies are expected to respond with courage and coordinated action, reflecting the warrior ethic of protecting one’s commander and cause.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna is hemmed in and visually ‘covered’ by elephants; in response, the Pāṇḍava–Pañcāla forces, armed with sharp weapons, raise battle-cries and press forward to engage and relieve him.
