सपताकाध्वजा: पेतुर्विशीर्णा इव पर्वता: । घुड़सवारोंने कितने ही शूरवीरोंको मार डाला और बड़े-बड़े दन्तार हाथियोंकी सूँड़ें काट लीं। सूँड़ कट जानेपर उन हाथियोंने युद्धस्थलमें बहुत-से मनुष्यों, हाथियों, रथों और घोड़ोंको कुचल डाला। फिर वे पताका और ध्वजोंसहित टूटे-फूटे पर्वतोंके समान पृथ्वीपर गिर पड़े

Transliteration

sa-patākā-dhvajāḥ petur viśīrṇā iva parvatāḥ |

Translation

Sañjaya dijo: Estandartes y banderas cayeron, como si montañas quebradas se desplomaran. En el fragor del combate, los jinetes mataron a muchos héroes y cercenaron las trompas de grandes elefantes de colmillos. Una vez cortadas sus trompas, aquellos elefantes, enloquecidos por el dolor, pisotearon a muchos hombres, elefantes, carros y caballos por todo el campo; y luego, llevando aún banderas y estandartes rotos, se estrellaron contra la tierra como montañas hechas pedazos: imagen del ciego ímpetu de la guerra, donde la violencia rebota sobre todos y los poderosos se vuelven instrumentos de ruina indiscriminada.
